Optimise your sight through cutting-edge nutritional ophthalmology practices
Dr Toms joined the Matrix Eye Clinic team in 2024 as an Ophthalmologist with a special interest in nutrition, metabolic health, and the gut-eye axis.
With a background in ophthalmology and functional medicine, Dr Toms brings a unique perspective to the field. By delving into the emerging science of the gut microbiome and nutrition, and its impact on eye health, Dr Toms aims to unlock new avenues for preventive care and personalised treatment strategies.
At Matrix Eye Clinic, you can see Dr Toms for any of the following eyecare issues which are known to be related to the gut microbiome and nutrition:
Matrix Eye Clinic is delighted to welcome Dr Radka Toms, MD to the clinic. Dr Toms is a GMC registered Ophthalmologist with a special interest in nutritional ophthalmology.
Through a comprehensive deep-dive into your lifestyle and everyday activities, paired with innovative diagnostic methodologies, Dr Toms can identify unique nutritional biomarkers which may be responsible for irregularities in your vision.
Dr Toms will then work with you to design a personalised treatment plan to optimise your gut microbiome and your eye health.
During your consultation with Dr Toms, she will listen carefully to the concerns that you have about your eyes, and will explore your ocular health history as well as your general health history. She will then examine your eyes using diagnostic tests to support any findings and will also focus in on an assessment of your nutritional status.
Dr Toms may then request additional tests to further assist the diagnosis and management plan, including blood tests, gut microbiome testing and food sensitivity testing. She may initiate treatment at your initial visit to the clinic, or may discuss planning treatment strategies once all of the required results are back, which can be done by telephone, video conference, or in person.

What you eat, drink, and do on a daily basis impacts your gut microbiome profile which, in turn, influences the way your body performs.
Exploring the gut-eye axis involves analysing the complex interconnection between gut-health and eye conditions.
By assessing the composition and diversity of your gut microbiome, we can develop personalised interventions to support the management of ocular conditions such as AMD (Age-related Macular Degeneration), uveitis, dry eye, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and other dietary-related conditions.
